Jamthund – Swedens Bear Dog

The Swedish Elkhound is a very ancient breed believed to have existed in 1000s. There are speculations that this breed was developed from the dogs of the Stone Age people. Swedish Elkhounds were developed in Jamtland, a province in northwestern Sweden. During the later part of the last Ice Age, the Jamtland people have developed the Swedish Elkhound, a breed of dog with an outstanding stature. This is the reason why the breed gained the name Jamthund.

A Swedish Elkhound is a spitz type dog noted to have a wolf-like appearance. Smooth and close lying coat that ranges from light to dark colors cover the rectangular shaped body. Grey and cream markings on various parts of the body makes the thick double coat more beautiful. A tightly curled scimitar shaped tail is another feature that gives this breed an impressive appearance

Dog Breed: American Foxhound

American Foxhound

The American Foxhound bears a striking resemblance to the body build of a Beagle. An American Foxhound’s height is between 21 and 25 inches and the weight ranges from 65 to 75 pounds. This breeds athletic sleek body is covered with a smooth coat of tan and white, red and white or black red and white combination. The admirable speed of this excellent hunter is attributed to the well boned strong legs.

The American Foxhound is a very old breed – older than America, the country it was named after. The breed originated from the English dogs that were brought to the New World in 1650 by Robert Brooke.
